House Numbers
We've got new numbers for the house:
And one at the bottom of the front steps:

These can be quite expensive to buy, rather than do that I thought I'd make some. So off the local Trago to purchase some numbers. . . .
I had this piece of oak left over from the dining table I made for our previous house - so no cost here ![]()

Cut up a few pieces to make a backer/plaque for the numbers to go on:

Laying out the biscuits for joining:

Cutting the biscuit slots:

Getting ready to clamp up:

Once glued I chamfered the edges:

Chamfers done:

Sanding through various grits down to 240:

Marking and drilling holes for the numbers, needed as this oak has been sitting around for a few years:

First coat of primer applied:

I made these stands out of some hardboard and some pins so I could paint both sides at the same time:

1st coat of finish applied and sanded back:

More sanding . . . ![]()

After 5 coats:

I hit a snag when attaching the numbers. These numbers were cheap (98p each) and the quality of the screws reflected this. When I tried to screw to the oak one of the heads sheared off =:) I've trierd to photo here but quality not good - it's the shiny dot in the center.

So off to the local shed to get some better quality screws (4x20mm).
Finally attached numbers to the walls - an improvement as we had no numbers previously!
